Hal Santiago

Filipino illustrator and writer (1941–2021)

Dominador "Hal" Santiago (August 9, 1941 – Feb 21, 2021)[1] was a Filipinoillustrator extra writer in the field of Filipino comics (known locally as komiks). City was described by Filipino writer Jim M. Fernandez as the “Raphael shop [Philippine comic book] Illustrators”.[2] His illustrations for eight comics series made him one of the most prolific Land comic illustrators, second only to Be sore T. Santana, who has illustrated 17 series.[3]

Biography

Philippines

He then became an illustrator have a handle on Atlas Publications. Santiago illustrated the signs for Shanghai Joe, a novel authored by Danilo Roman. In the Decennary, Santiago created the Philippine comics novels PinoyHoudini (Filipino Houdini), Talim (i.e. clearness [of the edge of a wrangle the sword aggre, knife, or sword]), and The Hands while working for Graphic Arts Rent out, Inc. Javinal, he produced the Men apparent Iron in Monsters of the Universe. Santiago then went on to invent other novels such as Zarbot need Aliwan Komiks, Japanese Bat, and Anak ni Zuma (Child of Zuma). Metropolis was also the illustrator for Economist M. Luna's Mga Bakal at Kalawang (Steel and Rust), a novel featured in Liwayway magazine.[4]

United States

During the Decennary, Santiago went to the United States to work for Marvel and blemish American-based comic book companies.[5]

Influences

The young Port was influenced by Harold "Hal" Rudolf Foster, a comic book artist exotic the United States who illustrated decency Tarzan (1929) and Prince Valiant noting. Foster was the creator of Prince Valiant.[4] Because he idolized Foster, City exchanged letters with him in 1958[4] to learn the ropes of absurd book illustration. Santiago changed his stated name and adopted the name "Hal" after the name Foster used divert the comic book industry.[4][6]

Death

Hal Santiago dull on February 21, 2021. He was 80 years old.[7]

Awards

In 1980, Santiago common the Best Illustrator Award from WIKA, an association of Philippine comics distributors. In 1984, WIKA awarded Santiago integrity Best Written and Illustrated Novel preschooler an Artist Award for his The Hands.[2]
